how to do intramsucular injections
you will need:
- hrt vial
- syringe
- both needles (22g and 25g)
- antiseptic wipes
- plaster or tissue paper
nb! estradiol can be taken subcutaneously. however, it frequently contains benzyl benzoate or benzyl alcohol which is an irritant and can cause allergic type reactions with subq injections, which is why i recommend im injections.
nb! sustanon is quite viscous, especially when cold. so to help making the injection easier you can place your vial in warm water for five minutes before preparing your shot.
- start off by wiping down the top of your vial (you should have removed the plastic/metal cap on top and it should be grey and rubbery in a metal case) with antiseptic.
- take the 22G needle (that’s the grey/black one) out of the packaging trying not to touch the uncapped part that connects to the syringe as well as taking the syringe out of the packaging and connect them. they screw together.
- stick the needle in the vial and flip both upside down so that the vial is directly above or at the no 1 or 11 on a clock above it.
- pull the needle so the tip is sitting within the liquid, but do not remove it from the vial. pull the plunger down away from the vial relatively slowly. there will be an air bubble and it will take a bit for the e/t to catch up. once you have filled enough that you can squeeze out the air bubble (usually to about 0.3ml), push the plunger towards the vial until the bubble is gone.
- if you need to draw up more e/t from the vial, or remove some e/t from the syringe to get to your dose do so now.
- pull the needle out of the vial and CAP IT!
- swap the 22g (black/grey) needle with the 25g (orange) needle (22g screws off and 25g screws on), and throw the 22g needle in a sharps box.
- check the syringe for bubbles. if you have a bubble or multiple bubbles more than 2-3mm across, flick the body of the syringe and gently push the plunger to release the air.
- look at the images below on how to find your injection site.
- when doing the injection its best to sit somewhere where you can have your feet flat on the floor with your legs relaxed. when you're ready, sanitise the area with an antiseptic wipe which you worked out from the previous steps. then uncap your needle and stick it in the site perpendicular to your leg (at a 90 degree angle). make sure the needle goes all the way in.
- pull the plunger away from your body a tiny bit and check the body of the syringe for blood. if you get blood, pull the needle out and start from step 1. if you get a small bubble, you're good to continue!
- slowly push the plunger down at a steady pace, whatever is most comfortable for you. when you have done this, remove the needle from your leg and put it in a sharps bin.
you will want to massage the area and around the injection site to prevent muscle ache the next day. this is mild and not dangerous, but can happen, especially the first few times. if its particularly bad, ibuprofen gel is your friend!
